festschrift flyer (Flieger)

So, I'm happy to announce that A WILDERNESS OF DRAGONS: ESSAYS IN HONOR OF VERLYN FLIEGER now has a publisher, Gabbro Head Press. Primary editing has now been all but completed. The book still needs a second editorial pass, plus an introduction and index. We're hoping for a publication date before the end of the year. Here's the flyer I'm distributing here at Kalamazoo, where several of our contributors are in attendance.

  1. Looks like a great group to be compiled for this book.

Any of your own fine work on the horizon Mr. Rateliff?

  2. Dear Dennis: yes, it's been a long time coming, and it's good to be able to share with people the complete list of contributors and the names of all their essays. We've got a good range of topics and a good group of people (yourself included). I think it's going to be a v. good book.

  3. Dear Trail

    Thanks for asking.

My own more recent publication just came out: an essay in the new 50th anniversary issue of ORCRIST. It's based on a talk I gave at Marquette a few years ago, and collects together all I've been able to learn about Tolkien's planned visit to Marquette in the late fifties.

It was nice to be asked to contribute to a special issue of a legendary publication; I'll try to post more about its contents in a different post.

  4. Thank you John.

I must admit to not reading Orcrist, which I should remedy that to read your essay at least.

I will get onto that this weekend and see about ordering a copy.

  5. Dear Trail

I'm certainly in good company in this special issue of ORCRIST. There's Doug Anderson on Evangelion Walton, Matt Fisher on SWM, Kristen Thompson on visiting New Zeeland while working on her book, and much more, from a Buddhist interpretation of LotR to a book review and letters to the editor, and more. They really did a nice job with this one.

current reading: some Fiona Macleod (not much to my liking)

P.S.: I haven't, in a quick search, been able to find the full Table of Contents for this posted online, but a complete t.o.c. of all eight previous issues can be found here: https://homepages.cae.wisc.edu/~rcwest/orcrist.html
